Laois to lose out with Portlaoise bans

Laois could be without captain Bruno McCormack and goalkeeper Michael Nolan for three months after both players were recommended for suspension for incidents in Portlaoise’s All-Ireland club semi-final.

McCormack was sent off on a second yellow card in the defeat to Clare side Kilmurry-Ibrickane while Nolan was not involved in any incident during the game, but both have been hit with proposed 12-week bans by the Central Competition Control Committee.

Both players were expected to return to the Laois team for the county’s remaining NFL Division 2 campaign, but will not be eligible to play until mid-May if the suspensions are imposed.

Brian Mulligan, who was sent off in the first minute of the game, and manager John Mulligan, who protested with the referee during the half time interval regarding the dismissal of his son, have had four weeks suspensions proposed.
