Big change at Laois GAA’s top table
There is widespread change today on the Laois GAA executive after the annual convention was held on Thursday night in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel.
Gerry Kavanagh was elected as vice-chairman to replace Tony Walsh who resigned earlier this year while Martin Byrne recorded a comprehensive victory over the outgoing treasurer Evelyn Dunne.
Camross’ Phil Duggan becomes one of the new faces on the executive as he was elected, unopposed, to the position of assistant treasurer.
Anthony Delaney got the better of Dick Miller in the election for Laois’ Central Council delegate while Laois’ two new Leinster Council delegates will be Michael Carroll and Kieran Leavy.
There was also a number of changes down the line. Tom Jones benefitted from Gerry Kavanagh’s elevation to vice-chairman by beating Kieran Delaney for the position of Development Officer. Vincent Dowling claimed the position of Youth Officer as he beat off the challenge of Andrew Broderick.
Peter O’Neill was elected unopposed to the position of Coaching Officer while Pascal McEvoy was returned unopposed as PRO. Marcella Daly returned as Irish Officer after seeing off Roghan Headon for the position.
