Laois make most of weekend break

Laois Senior Footballers were in Clare last weekend where they beat the locals in a challenge match and also did a couple of heavy training sessions. “We got a lot done over the weekend,” said Seán Dempsey, “and while Clare weren’t the strongest opposition, it was still a useful workout for us and we got to give everyone a run.”

Neither Joe Higgins nor Noel Garvan travelled to Clare as they’re both recovering from recent injury setbacks but they were expected to train with the team last night (Tuesday). Billy Sheehan and Brendan Quigley have recovered from injury and played against Clare with Padraig McMahon the only Laois player on the long-term injury list at present. He’s definitely out of the Louth game and probably won’t play any football until mid-July at the earliest.

Tom Kelly, meanwhile, continues to recuperate following his cruciate operation but he’s still a while away from pulling on the Laois jersey yet. He’s done a couple of sessions with St Joseph’s and has been working on his own but he has yet to play any competitive match.
Laois’ game against Louth is fixed for Parnell Park on June 14.
