Wynne on target to dump out Camross
LAOIS hurling kingpins Camross were dumped out yesterday as ‘06 champions, Rathdowney-Errill, ran out six-point victors against the pre-championship favourites.
Camross have not been convincing this year but they are a side to be feared at the business end of the Laois SH championship. However, they found their match as Rathdowney-Errill ran out 2-19 to 2-13 victors.
A goal from Alan Delaney — who scored 1-6 — gave the winners a platform to build on during the first half.
Even though Camross were ahead midway through the second half, Rathdowney-Errill scored a goal through Liam Wynne after a mistake from Laois substitute ‘keeper Tadgh Doran and it was a lead they held to the finish.
Meanwhile, last year’s beaten finalists, Portlaoise, have qualified for another final as they easily dispatched Clough Ballacolla 1-20 to 2-9.
Laois hurlers Cahir Healy and Tommy Fitzgerald were the best players on show, while Willie Hyland was the only Clough Ballacolla player to stand out.
Portlaoise will now enter the final as favourites but will be wary of the threat from Rathdowney-Errill as they go in search of their second crown in three years.
