Fennelly suffers injury setback

Aidan Fennelly has emerged as a major doubt for Laois’ Leinster senior football championship opener against either Kildare or Carlow after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury in a club game.
The experienced corner back sustained the injury during the warm-up before Portlaoise’s league victory over Timahoe at the weekend, and now faces a race against time to be fit for the June 1 quarter-final.
“Aidan was just coming back to full fitness but wasn’t 100 per cent happy with the hamstring,” Laois manager Liam Kearns admitted.
“It’s cruel luck and I feel sorry for Aidan because he’s a fine player but he has had no luck over the past two years.”
Kearns added: “Hopefully it will be a long championship and I’m sure he’ll make it back, but the timing is bad.”
