Ballyfin College announce exhibition games
Ballyfin College have announced they are to play three exhibition games this April 25 to commemerate 80 years of sport in the school, as it prepares to close its doors for the last time later this year.
There will be football, hurling and ladies football games on the day, with a selection of former Ballyfin students taking on a selection of former Portlaoise CBS students in the football and hurling games, while a Ballyfin ladies football select team will play a Laois ladies selection.
Both Ballyfin and Portlaoise CBS have produced some of the most successful school teams the county has ever seen, and the games should see a vast number of current and former intercounty players returning to their alma mater's for one final game. Ballyfin can boast past pupils like Richie Connor, Derek Conroy, Brian McCormack, Ian Fitzgerald, Niall Collins and Cahir Healy in football, as well as John Lyons, Paul and David Cuddy, Paddy Mullaney and Tadgh Doran in hurling.
They will all come face to face with their old CBS rivals like Tommy Fitzgerald, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Colm Parkinson, MJ Tierney, Joe Phelan and Colm Clear. The Ballyfin ladies team will also be fielding a strong line up, with former All Stars Patricia Fogarty and Tracey Lawlor joined by players like Mags McEvoy, Ellen Healy and Carol Browne.
It is hoped to play the game under lights on the 25th, with all the monies raised on the day going towards the Laois Development squads.
